Tour de France keepsake for Harrogate

8 September 2014

Having just about come down to earth after Harrogate’s Tour de France frenzy, the town’s mayor and mayoress have received a lasting memento of this summer’s spectacular event.

Coun Jim Clark and Coun Shirley Fawcett invited local artist Anita Bowerman to the Mayor’s Parlour, where they were presented with a framed limited edition paper cut of the Yorkshire stage of the race.

The intricate work was created by Anita Bowerman who works from her Dove Tree studio – a converted coach house – on Back Granville Road. It took six months to carve out from a single piece of paper and includes amazing detail and familiar landmarks – the flag-waving masses on West Park Stray earn a place.

The mayor and mayoress, who are admirers of Anita’s work, said the piece had caught their eye while it was on display during the Tour de France.

Cllr Clark said: The detail is incredible. I don’t know how she does it. I wouldn’t have the patience!

Coun Fawcett said they were both thrilled to receive the artwork. She said it was a stunning memento of a truly splendid summer for the Harrogate District and it would hang in the entrance to the Council Offices for all to see.

Anita’s paper cuts and other work can be seen at the studio on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10am-3.30pm and in Saturdays from noon-5pm or visit her website www.anitabowerman.co.uk
