A Harrogate charity has headed to a supermarket’s “cheque out” after staff there undertook 12-months of fundraising activity.
Disability Action Yorkshire, which has a training centre on the town’s Hornbeam Park and a residential home on Claro Road, has been the Sainsbury’s nominated charity for the past year.
And, thanks to a variety of initiatives by staff and customers at the Wetherby Road store, the charity has received in excess of £4,000 to help it continue the work it does supporting young disabled people live independent lives.
Paul Clayton, the deputy manager of Sainsbury’s Wetherby Road store said: Each year the staff nominate a local charity for us to raise money for, which is a fundamental part of our activities in supporting the community we work in.
Disability Action Yorkshire’s name was put forward and this proved a very popular choice indeed.
Over the year the team here – with great support from our customers – has seen us raise in excess of £4,000.This has been achieved by in-store book sales, tombola’s, a fun run and bag packing. The final donation, which we were delighted to present to the charity, was for £1295.
I’m very proud of what the team here has achieved in this 12 months and I know the money will go towards the superb work Disability Action does in the town.
Disability Action Yorkshire chief executive Jackie Snape said: We were thrilled at being nominated as Sainsbury’s charity of the year and are simply overwhelmed by the amount they have raised for us.
Raising funds is essential if we want to continue providing the service we, and the support from Sainsbury’s has been invaluable.
