Throughout feva festival-goers will be able to enjoy an Urban Beach in the tranquil – at times – setting of Henshaws Arts and Crafts Centre. Sand, games, loungers, chairs and tables; enjoy food and drink from Henshaws’ cafe and listen to music. Find out what entertainment is available each day on the Beach on www.feva.info

Friday 8 August

  • Scarecrow Making Workshop – Studio 3 – 10 am to 12 pm, and 2 pm to 4pm

Lots of fun, creative scarecrow-making activities for children aged 5 years and over. Parents welcome. All scarecrows can be entered in Sunday’s competition.Telephone bookings only, 07966 173636. £3.50 includes materials.

  • Bob’s Your Uncle – Market Place – 12 noon, 1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm

Our favourite uncle gets the magic of fevaunder way with his fabulous and fun show for all the family. Free

Northern Songbirds
Northern Songbirds
  • Northern Songbirds – Henshaws – 5.30pm

Small but perfectly formed, Northern Songbirds are a local choir who take an eclectic mix of favourite songs and add a special twist to make them their own. Join them on Knaresborough Urban Beach at Henshaws as they get the fevaparty started. Free

  • Treasure Hunt – Library – 6 pm – 7pm

Discover the history of Knaresborough and its trompe l’oeils on a walking treasure hunt around the town centre on footpaths and quiet roads. Starts at the Library between 6 and 7pm. Suitable for all ages. Entries to be handed in by 9pm. £2 per team

  • Lions’ Beer Festival – Knaresborough House – 7pm to 11 pm

Knaresborough Lions Club’s annual two-day beer festival kicks off in support of feva, with a wonderful selection of real ales from around the country. Live music from 8pm. Free

  • Vin Garbutt – Frazer Theatre – 8pm

After 40 years of continual worldwide touring, Vin Garbutt has become one of the elder statesmen of folk. Renowned for his hilarious intros and powerful song lyrics, his brilliant live shows are warm, moving, funny and gut-wrenchingly honest. £12 @

Saturday 9 August

  • Medieval Sword-Fighting – Castle – 11am to 4pm

Have a go at sword-fighting, enjoy craft making from clay pots to beads to puppets, and visit the Castle, museum and sallyport. Joint activity with York Archaeological Trust. Activities range from free to £3

  • Young Talent Unplugged – Market Place – 12 to 4pm

In association with the AMP Awards, feva welcomes four of Yorkshire’s most promising young bands to perform live and unplugged, including The Shades representing King James’s School. Free

  • Lions’ Beer Festival – Knaresborough House – 12 noon to 11 pm

Second day of the Lions’ Beer Festival, featuring the best of British beer, staged in partnership with feva. Live music all day. Free

  • The Lean Mean Writing Machine – Library – 2 pm – 4.30 pm

Creative writing workshop run by York author Helen Cadbury for those wishing to fine-tune their fiction. Participants are asked to bring a short section of something they are working on. £10 @

  • Lux Aertana – St John’s Church – 7.30 pm

A wide variety of vocal and choral music to suit all tastes from St John’s Choir and friends, featuring works by Herbert Howells, Alan Spedding and Charles Wood. £6, concessions £4

  • A Slice of ’64 – Frazer Theatre – 7.30 pm

The Knaresborough Players celebrate 50 years at the Frazer with their own original musical theatre show set in 1964. The show also features local band Royalty 3, and includes many of the hit songs of the time. £8, concessions £6 @

  • Saturday Night Burlesque feva – Henshaws – 8 pm

Following the sell-out success of last year’s show, Lily la Belle returns for another sparkling night of music and burlesque. Not to be missed, so be sure to book early.£12@

Sunday 10 August

  • feva Eucharist – St John’s Church – 10 am

Mozart’s Missa Brevis in B Flat (K275) performed liturgically by St. John’s Choir and members of Knaresborough Pro Musica. Free

  • Open Day – Knaresborough Allotments – 1.30 pm

Welcome to Stockwell Road Allotments – enjoy the Scarecrows, let them help you solve the quiz, then vote for your favourite. Cream teas, produce stall, competitions and activities. £2 per family includes quiz sheet. Pay on entry.

  • Town Crier Contest – Market Place – 2 pm

Town criers from far and wide compete in this popular annual competition in traditional attire. Sponsored by Bowers Funeral Directors. Free

  • The Red Shoes – Market Place – 3 pm

Four Shadows Theatre present this musical fairytale based on Hans Christian Anderson’s famous story – a young girl is tempted to put on the red shoes but risks a terrible fate! Free

  • Cadenza – The Market Cafe (Prudames) – 4 pm

Enjoy the beautiful voices of Cadenza, with afternoon tea at The Market Cafe (formerly Prudames). Ticket price includes tea or coffee, fresh cream, scones with butter and jam at this newly-run establishment. £6 @

  • Flag and Bone Gang Dance Workshop – Holy Trinity Church Hall – 3 pm to 4.30 pm

Come and try traditional Morris dancing with those feva favourites, the Flag and Bone Gang. All ages, male and female, welcome. Children must be accompanied by parents or guardians. Free but donations welcome.

  • Band by the Riverside – Conyngham Hall Farm – 3 pm to 5 pm

Pack your picnics and head to the recently-renovated Conyngham Hall Farm by the River Nidd to enjoy the sounds of the ever-popular Knaresborough Silver Band with their varied programme of brass music – something for everyone! Free

  • Flag and Bone Gang – Market Place – 6.30 pm

Dancing in their own style and in distinctive costume, these veiled performers prove that the Morris dancing tradition is alive and kicking! Free

  • Cedar Bark Basketry – Art in the Mill – 7.30 pm

A talk by Sherry Doyle of the UK’s Craft Council on cedar bark basketry with reference to the First Nations of the North West coast of the USA, with samples to examine. Booking essential on 01423 862963. £5 includes refreshments.

  • Pete White’s Suitcase Circus – Market Place – 11am, 1 pm and 3pm

Fantastic family fun featuring circus tricks, comedy and lots of audience participation! Free

  • Sketching Around Knaresborough – starts at Henshaws – 11 am

  • Historical Tour – Castle – 2 pm to 3.30pm

  • Hornbeam Molly – Market Place – 6.30pm

Come along and enjoy Knaresborough-based group Hornbeam Molly as they don colourful disguises to perform lively traditional dances with their customary enthusiasm! Free

  • Women and the Great War – Frazer Theatre – 7.30pm

The fantastic History Wardrobe group demonstrate the impact of the Great War on women and fashion in this moving and amusing performance, which includes the chance to examine the fashions first hand. £10 @

  • Echo the Woods – Henshaws – 8 pm

Knaresborough’s very own fantastic folk-rock and country band. Guaranteed to get your feet stomping. £8 @

Chill out with the venue’s popular two-course barbecue and some of Knaresborough’s finest local jazz musicians. The energy and talent of these musicians will deliver an evening of magical entertainment and wonderful music. £20 @

Traditional Punch & Judy show with lots of comedy and a fair bit of violence – but never fear, no babies, crocodiles or sausages will be harmed during the performance! Free

  • Storytrail and Mythical Maze Hunt – Library – 2.30 pm to 4.30pm

Mythical stories of old Knaresborough. Starting at the Library and ending at the Castle (tour included). For children aged 5 – 8 who must be accompanied. Free event but please book in advance at the Library, tel: 0845 300 5112

  • Dance feva – Frazer Theatre 2.30pm and later at 7.30pm

Two vibrant performances of song and dance, by the wonderfully talented youngsters of Studio 3 Dance Workshop. £5, concessions £4 @

  • Reminiscences of Childhood – Chain Lane Community Centre – 7.30 pm

Following its award-winning debut at the Edinburgh Festival, this hour-long solo performance by Lighthouse Theatre succeeds in creating a delightfully haunting exploration of the work of the great Dylan Thomas – this year is the centenary of his birth. “Dylan Thomas has never seemed so alive,” Independent. £10 @

  • Peter Robinson’s Abattoir Blues – Library – 7 pm

feva is delighted to welcome best-selling author Peter Robinson, creator of DCI Banks, as he launches his latest book in the series, Abattoir Blues. £5

  • The Wonderful Sound of the Cinema Organ – Henshaws – 8 pm

Not traditional cinema organs but a brilliant 8-piece band that create a live soundtrack to projections of archive footage, mixing the warmth of vintage jazz with a contemporary edge. £10 @

Wednesday 13 August

  • Orb Live Extravaganza – Orb (by the Frazer Theatre) – 1 pm to 7pm

Hear live bands and DJs; experience amazing sound and lights; see the Artspace exhibition; play fairground games and win a recording session, and taste exotic food from the Orb Green Garden. Free

Studio 3 presents Hansel and Gretel in the delightful setting of Knaresborough Castle Grounds, performed by youngsters aged upwards from three years. Free

  • The Blarge – Carriages – 7.30 pm

Out of the ashes of the Drouthy Band comes a new duo: The Blarge, playing blistering Bluegrass and Celtic songs and tunes on guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, tenor banjo and, of course, the customary percussive distractions. Audience participation is compulsory. Free

  • Inn at the Top and Other True Stories – Library – 7.30 pm

The adventures of a young couple who became the landlords of the Tan Hill Inn, the UK’s highest inn, in the 1970s, and their life as writers since. £5 @

  • Clogarhythm – Market Place – 6.30 pm

Don’t miss the best clog step dancing troupe in the whole of Knaresborough with their famous motto – “when all else fails wave your arms about!”Free

This authentic four-piece band recreates the energy, excitement and emotion of a classic Queen concert. Expect costume changes and a show packed with hit-after-hit from Queen’s musical legacy. £12 @

  • Trevor Organ’s Cracking Crockery – Market Place – 11 am, 1 pm, 3 pm

Spectacular and great fun – Trevor Organ’s plate spinning act features skilled manipulation, audience involvement and an edge-of-the-seat finale. Don’t miss the Sultan of Spin! Free

  • Knaresborough in World War One – Library – 2.30 pm to 4pm

  • John Archer – laughter and magic – Gracious St. Methodist Church – 7.30 pm

John Archer’s mind-boggling magic and hilarious comedy demonstrate why he was voted 2009 stage magician of the year, and was the first magician to fool ITV’s Penn and Teller. World class entertainment for all ages. £10, children £7 @

The Whiskey Dogs play authentic, good time Americana. Old time mountain music, hillbilly blues, dust-bowl ballads and jug band hokum are all played in the crazy, exhilarating spirit of the 1920s and 30s. £10 @

Friday 15 August

  • The Great Mandavi – Market Place – 11am, 1pm, 3pm

Juggling with fire under water while dodging the jaws of a man eating shark! The Great Mandavi has performed this show from Covent Garden to Darjeeling. Not to be missed!Free

The Market Square comes alive with a vibrant selection of energetic and exciting routines from this enthusiastic young street dance company. Free

  • Mediterranean Tour (not just a load of old stones) – Library – 7.30 pm

An illustrated tour of the ancient historical sites of the Mediterranean from the ever popular Muddy Archaeologist, Gillian Hovell, who is making a welcome return visit tofeva.£4 @

  • The Tidswell Noise Collective – Orb (by the Frazer Theatre) – 8 pm

Relax with a glass of wine and lose yourself with the Tidswell’s electro-acoustic sonic soundscape composed live on the evening, culminating in an audience participative final piece. £5 @

  • Swing Commanders – Frazer Theatre – 8 pm

After last year’s triumphant performance feva just had to invite them back. Their energetic show brings an exciting mix of 1940s classics, boogie-woogie, western swing and jump jazz to life with amazing joie-de-vivre. £12 @

Saturday 16 August

feva’sfantastic free, open-air concert in this stunning natural amphitheatre. Hosted by the brilliant DJ Trev, this year’s bands include Alister’s Theory, About Town, MG Band and The Detail. There are no food or drink stalls so please bring your own. Sponsored by Knaresborough Lions. Free

  • Jazz in the Garden – Carriages – 12 noon to 5 pm

Knaresborough Pro Musica combine with feva to achieve the coup of bringing Matthew Gee, international soloist and principle trombone with the Royal Philharmonic, who will perform  Albrechtsberger concerto in b flat. Also the programme will include Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, Vivaldi concerto for four violins and Praeludium in d minor by Carbonelli. Pack away your raincoat, toss aside your umbrella, and come and embrace the English summer with a good old fashioned knees-up on the beach.
