Harrogate Town 1 – 2 FC Halifax Town

20 July 2014

A goal five minutes from time gave FC Halifax Town a narrow victory over Harrogate.

Manager,Simon Weaver, rang the changes giving starts to trialists, Harry Coates, Louis Swain and Luke Dean.

The first half was played in a torrential downpour and it is testament to the hard work of the groundstaff that the pitch coped superbly.

Both teams struggled for supremacy and the game was largely a midfield battle, but on twenty minutes Harrogate took the lead.

The Shaymen failed to clear a centre and Ashley Worsfold rose at the far post to head past Matty Glennon.

Harrogate continued to press and Glennon did well to turn a shot from the impressive Dean for a corner.

Halifax levelled just before the break when Ross Dyer was brought down in the area in a clash with Coates and Peter Crook.Dyer made no mistake with the resulting spot kick.

Ryan Kendall replaced Worsfold at the break and Rhys Meynell, Lloyd Kerry and James Walshaw were soon brought into action.
Kendall squandered a great chance to restore Harrogate’s lead when he chipped over from close range after being found unmarked by Walshaw and Meynell just missed with a powerful thirty yard drive.

However, on 85 minutes Halifax sub,Scott Boden, rounded Coates and sidefooted past Crook into the far corner to give victory to the visitors.
