Henshaws skydive team: Whitney Tiffany, Tracey Sam and Laura

Henshaws staff skydive to raise funds

17 July 2014

A group of eight staff from Henshaws Arts & Crafts Centre in Knaresborough and Henshaws College in Harrogate will be travelling down to Lincoln and preparing themselves to jump out of an aeroplane this Saturday 19 July 2014. Each of them has pledged to raise at least £425 in order to jump out of an aeroplane at 18,000feet.

Whitney, Tiffany, Simon, George, Greg, Tracey, Sam and Laura are all geared up and have been fundraising for the last few months. As they work for Henshaws they understand the difference the extra funds raised can make to the society and to help support more people affected by blindness and a disability.

Whitney Baldwin, student enabler at Henshaws College has wanted to do a Skydive for Henshaws since she started working for Henshaws: I love working for Henshaws and I’m really glad I can do something to give something back to the society to support the amazing students that I work with.

Henshaws College offer flexible learning programmes that support residential and day students aged 16 – 25 years with learning difficulties, sensory impairments and physical disabilities. Empowering young people with the skills and independence they need to achieve the future they want.

Henshaws Arts & Crafts Centre provides training for people with disabilities. Every week, over 150 Art Makers take part in a range of workshops, including employability training, health and wellbeing, arts and crafts and multi-sensory.

Daisy, an Art Maker at the Arts & Crafts said: Henshaws staff really support me and include me fully in all the sessions so I can join in with everything. I’ve really grown in confidence since I started here. They’ve given me the confidence to get out there and live my life to the full.
