Honour for Bill Cowling, Honorary Show Director

9 July 2014

Bill Cowling, Honorary Show Director of the Great Yorkshire Show, has been appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of North Yorkshire by the Lord-Lieutenant, Lord Crathorne.

The Cabinet Office in a letter dated 8th July confirmed that: Her Majesty The Queen does not disapprove the appointment of Mr Bill Cowling as a Deputy Lieutenant for the County of North Yorkshire.

The announcement came on the day (Weds 9 July2014) when Bill was preparing to welcome HRH The Princess Royal, having welcomed The Countess of Wessex on the previous day. The Great Yorkshire Show is England’s premier agricultural event.

Commenting on the appointment Bill said: I am absolutely thrilled and delighted. This is a huge honour and as a North Yorkshire farmer I feel I represent not only the Show but our county’s farming and rural interests.

Lord Crathorne said that Bill’s long experience as a highly successful Honorary Show Director will enable him to contribute much as a Deputy Lieutenant. The role of a Deputy Lieutenant is to support the work of the Lord Lieutenant in the County.

Lord Crathorne added: I know Bill will do this admirably and be a great addition to the team.

It was a particularly special day for the Cowling family, as Bill’s 6-year-old granddaughter, Francesca Kottler, had an important role too, presenting a Yorkshire white rose to HRH The Princess Royal during her visit today (Weds) to the Great Yorkshire Show.
