Smithers Viscient, a global leader in environmental sciences, has this week moved into its new facility in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. The new site is one of the most advanced purpose-built environmental laboratories in Europe.

In designing the new laboratory Smithers Viscient focused on efficiency and flexibility. Serving clients in the agrochemical, pharmaceutical, industrial chemical and animal health industries means conducting a diverse range of environmental studies. The new Harrogate laboratory will serve as the home for all of Smithers Viscient’s UK-based scientists and support staff.

Smithers Group President and CEO, Michael Hochschwender stated: The new EU laboratory is part of our continued investment globally to ensure we remain the leader in environmental testing and demonstrates our commitment to provide clients with solutions that combine the best science with world class operations.

The Harrogate laboratory conducts a wide range of aquatic and plant studies with expertise in earthworms, arthropods and a variety of fish species. Smithers Viscient also has a well-deserved reputation for its environmental work on the safety of bees.

David Phillips, Managing Director of Smithers Viscient, Europe: Our forte over the last 40 years has centred on our ability to offer a wide variety of techniques performed by highly competent scientists. The Harrogate based team, now operating from our new laboratory, will continue that work.

The new site allows us to add more lines of testing and increase our scope in line with client’s future needs. Our approach is to partner with clients and work with them as they enter new markets, introduce new products or respond to evolving industry regulations.

The Smithers Group has divisions in the United States, Asia and the United Kingdom, and has been providing environmental services for over 40 years. The company is trusted worldwide to provide independent, third party expertise.
