Brackenfield Le Tour sponsored event raises over £1500 for Shine

30 June 2014

With the Tour de France arriving in Yorkshire shortly, Brackenfield School in Harrogate have held a sponsored Le Tour event at the Yorkshire Showground to support the charity Shine.

The event was launched at Harrogate’s only stand- alone prep school last term by ex- England footballer and BBC pundit, Danny Mills who is patron of Shine, the charity that supports families and individuals affected by hydrocephalus or spina bifida.

The event at the showground lasted all day with children and parents cycling, jogging or walking a mile long route around the venue. Younger pupils enjoyed their very own shorter course.

It was a wonderful day with many children completing over 20 miles. All the children wore yellow Shine T-shirts; a colour most appropriate for the Tour.

Headteacher, Judith Skillington who organised the event was delighted with how the day went: The Showground have been wonderfully supportive in allowing us to use the venue and helping to plan the course. The children and parents thoroughly enjoyed the course and experiencing the venue before the Yorkshire Show whilst it was empty.

It was a very memorable day in aid of a very worthwhile cause. An event to remember for years to come in the summer the Tour came to Yorkshire.

Principal, Anthony Comerford was equally pleased with the event: Every year Brackenfieldsupports a different charity through a different event. This was a wonderful day in which everyone entered into the spirit of Le Tour whilst supporting Shine, such a worthwhile charity. We couldn’t have hoped for a better day.

Over £1,500 has been raised by this event and this amount is still rising. Anyone wishing to donate should go to www.justgiving.com/Brackenfield-School
