“Insider’s guide to Yorkshire” App launched

12 June 2014

A unique new smart phone app which allows users to explore all the attractions that Yorkshire has to offer, has been launched at Ripon’s Newby Hall and Gardens.

Go Yorkshire, which has been developed by Bedale-based Elmtree Press and with support from Ryedale Council, uses the phone’s internal GPS to determine user location, then finds places to visit nearby, listing them by proximity.

The free app – styled “the insider’s guide to Yorkshire” – will also give users the ability to find the latest offers available from listings in the region. Offers can be downloaded to the device with the app also producing a verification code to give to the venue.

The many attractions listed on the app include renowned Yorkshire destinations; Black Sheep Brewery, Newby Hall & Gardens, Lightwater Valley Theme Park, the National Railway Museum, and Betty’s tearooms, in addition to a host of lesser known attractions that even Yorkshire residents might not know about.
One of the unique features of the app for business and attractions listed on it is the fact they are able to update their own information and offers on a daily basis.
Another unique feature is the loyalty card, which helps the user build up points at their favourite places.
With the Tour de France heading to Yorkshire in just three week’s time, the app’s creators are confident it will prove a valuable, and reliable, source of up-to-the-minute information for the millions of visitors, who will be flocking to the region for the world famous race.
Helen Bullock, Elmtree Press managing director, said: “We are delighted to be launching this unique app in time for when the world’s eyes will be focused on the region.
“We have been involved in the Yorkshire tourist industry for more than two decades and the Go Yorkshire app is the next stage in our journey.
“It has been designed with both the user and advertisers in mind. It is easy to use and its unique feature is that businesses can update their listings as often as they like.
“In addition to visitors, the app has been designed to appeal the residents of this wonderful county who are looking to explore the region further.

“We have already received a huge amount of positive feedback from users, and it is being downloaded on a very regular basis.”
