Serious collision south of Harrogate

Police are currently at the scene of a serious collision at the roundabout which connects the A61 Harrogate to Leeds Road with the A658 which by-passes Harrogate to the south, near the village of Kirkby Overblow.

The collision was reported at 4.09pm on Saturday 17 May 2014 and involves one car.

The A658 is closed in both directions and is expected to remain closed for some time. Local diversions are in place.

The A61 from Harrogate to Leeds is closed but officers are working to open this road as soon as possible.

The roads are closed to allow collision investigators to carry out a full examination of the scene and to recover and preserve the vehicle. This is to allow investigators to establish exactly what happened to cause the collision.
There are severe delays in the area and officers are advising motorists to find alternative routes if possible. They have thanked those caught up in the tailbacks for their patience and understanding while they deal with the collision.
