On 16 April 2014 Nigel Morrison and David Dunckley of financial and business advisers Grant Thornton UK LLP were appointed joint administrators to John Cheatle Limited and John Cheatle (Midlands) Limited.
The John Cheatle Group supplies school uniforms to over 1200 primary/ secondary schools across the UK and is headquartered in Leicester. Currently employing c.200 staff it operates 34 high street branches and 46 in-school shops.

Rawcliffes on East Parade in Harrogate is part of the John Cheatle Group.

The Harrogate Rawcliffes will continue to trade for the time being as part of the administration, however, it was not one of the branches that was included in the management buy-out. There is no guarantee it will continue to trade after the administration period. No decisions have been taken yet to when the remaining branches will formally stop trading as there is still some possibility at this moment in time that a buyer may be found.

Nigel Morrison said: Grant Thornton has been working with the company directors for the last month to pursue a going concern sale of the entire business, but unfortunately, this was not possible.

The Management team have purchased a small part of the business which they will continue to trade going forward under the name Newplan Solutions Limited.

The entity will include 12 branches and 15 in-school shops, transferring approximately 80 staff. The balance of stores will continue to trade during the Administration for a short period of time to realise remaining stock.

The majority of staff will be retained by the Administrators during the trading period, which is likely to be four to five months.
