Le Grand Camp

Roecliffe C of E Primary School offers all of its pupils the opportunity to camp out under the stars and live out the school’s values in one very special event.
Roecliffe C of E Primary School is leading innovations in the curriculum, being the first in the local area to offer its pupils to opportunity to tick off one of the ’50 Things to do before you’re 11 ¾’ as all 51 pupils in Key Stage camped overnight on the village green on Thursday 1 May 2014. They established camp, pitched tents, enjoyed a BBQ, made their beds, toasted marshmallows, slept under canvas, shared breakfast with their friends, took part in the Bushtucker Trial… eating grasshoppers and crickets! (even the teachers!), built dens, learnt survival techniques and the ‘Rule of 3’ and all of this was linked to the Tour De France Grand Depart – we called the camp ‘Le Grand Camp’.

Mrs Dalton, Head Teacher said: Every single pupil was given the opportunity to ‘camp out’ in this unique experience as even the youngest children enjoyed their day camp.
In November 2013, Ofsted recognised that Roecliffe Primary School “provides a very rich and exciting curriculum, which ultimately ensures that all pupils enjoy learning, displayed in their behaviour which is ‘exemplary’.

Le Grand Camp was one of these unique opportunities which ensures that our pupils love learning in and are so proud of their school, largely due to the way that teachers ‘make learning fun’.

Le Grand Camp enabled all pupils the opportunity to live-out our school values, whilst experiencing first-hand the beautiful environment in which we learn every day. Learning to respect each other, respect the locality and respect the rich opportunities which are available at Roecliffe C of E Primary School. The progression in personal, social and cultural opportunities range from the day camp, an overnight camp, a 3 day residential to France in Year 4, a visit to our capital city in Year 5 and a week-long residential in outdoor pursuits in Year 6, these alongside our fantastic range of learning opportunities beyond the classroom are what contribute to ‘Outstanding’ behaviour and ethos at Roecliffe C of E Primary School.
