M&S Harrogate raise funds for Saint Michael’s hospice

30 April 2014

Staff at Marks & Spencer Harrogate have been working hard to raise vital funds for Saint Michael’s Hospice in Harrogate as part of the company’s Plan A commitments. Employees presented more than £20,000 to charity representatives.

Employees took part in a 12 month fundraising campaign, with a range of activities from sponsored walks and runs, to cake bakes and raffles.

Matt Graham, M&S Harrogate Store Manager, said: Each year M&S stores select local charities to support and we are delighted that the M&S Harrogate team has been able to raise funds for this great cause. This charity is very close to the team here in Harrogate as a member of staff, Marie Mott, spent some time at the hospice before sadly passing away last year.

The staff have participated in a number of fund-raising activities and in memory of Marie the team wore bright red lipstick for a day, something she was well-known for, to help raise awareness of our fundraising efforts. The staff have been really enthusiastic in their efforts to support this charity over the last 12 months and have raised an incredible amount.

Chief Executive of Saint Michael’s, Tony Collins said: We would like to thank the staff, customers and everybody at Marks & Spencer in Harrogate for their fantastic support over the past 12 months. Here at Saint Michael’s we depend on the generous help of the communities we serve so that we can continue to provide vital high quality care for local people living with terminal illnesses and bereavement – and Marks and Spencer’s contribution is a huge boost.

We are tremendously grateful to receive this support and look forward to having a close relationship with the local M&S team long into the future.

M&S works closely with local communities as part of Plan A commitments, the company’s pledge to become the world’s most sustainable major retailer.
