Cairn Hotel evacuated overnight following minor fire

In the early hours of this morning (30 April 2014), the Fire Service were called to the Cairn Hotel on the Ripon road in Harrogate following reports of a fire.

Crews from Harrogate Fire Station attended at 01:41 hours and found the fire was in a wheelie bin located in a single storey garage measuring (15 metres by 15 metres), which adjoined the Hotel.

Further fire engines were requested including the aerial ladder. In total 6 breathing apparatus, 3 hose reel jets, triple extension ladder and lighting were used to deal with the fire.

The hotel was evacuated with the evacuation undertaken quickly and safely.

A spokesperson for the Cairn said: It was a small fire in the hotel bins at approx 1.40am. All 197 guests and staff were evacuated safely and the fire service had it under control quickly.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
