29 April 2014

BBC football pundit and ex England player, Danny Mills launched Brackenfield School’s charity event this week.

The children at Brackenfield in Harrogate will be raising money for the charity Shine that supports families and individuals affected by hydrocephalus or spina bifida. Danny spoke to the children in assembly to explain the work of Shine and how sport can help individuals and families affected by these conditions. Hoping for good summer weather, Brackenfield have planned a sponsored cycle event for all their children at the Yorkshire Showground in June. Danny Mills has even promised to try to appear via video link from Brazil where he will be covering the World Cup.

Principal, Anthony Comerford is delighted that Brackenfield will be supporting such a worthwhile cause:  Shine is a great charity that does a huge amount to support individuals who are less fortunate than most of us. We were so pleased that one of the patrons of Shine, Danny Mills was able to talk to the children about the work of Shine, in particular how Shine supports individuals through sport.

Headteacher, Judith Skillington is also very pleased that Brackenfield will be supporting Shine: We are looking forward to a very sunny day In June when the children will have the chance to join in with the spirit of the Tour de France at the same time as supporting such a worthwhile cause. I would like to thank the Yorkshire Showground for all of their support in allowing us to use their venue for this event.

If there are any individuals or businesses interested in supporting this event please contact Brackenfield School.
