Fine art and wine tasting for Saint Michael’s Hospice

17 April 2014

Work by Yorkshire artists will be shown at ‘Impressions of Yorkshire’ in aid of Saint Michael’s Hospice, Harrogate on Thursday 1st May from 6.30-8.30 pm at the Hospice on Hornbeam Park Avenue, Harrogate. The event’s organisers, the Knaresborough Fundraising Group, are promising “an explosion of the senses” with a mix of traditional and modern Yorkshire art coupled with fine wine tasting in conjunction with Ake and Humphris wine and beer specialists.
The idea for the exhibition came about after the family of Yorkshire artist, Ray Sturgess, donated his landscape pastel paintings to the Hospice with the wish that proceeds from any sales go to Saint Michael’s Hospice. Prior to his recent ill-health, Ray was a hobby artist using mainly pastels in this paintings, as well as oils and acrylic for his most popular subjects of landscapes and still life. Seeing the vibrant landscapes in the donated collection, the fundraising group was inspired to put on an exhibition celebrating Yorkshire scenery. The show will include work from fellow Yorkshire artists Mary Farnell, Piers Browne, Daphne Chandler, Lucinda Buscall and Jacquie Denby, as well as photographic prints and cards from Joe Cornish and pottery by Andrew Hague.

Nicola Buscall of Buscall Gallery, who has volunteered to organise the exhibition for the sale of the artwork, explained: The Hospice were very fortunate in being offered a large number of Ray’s pastels and several will be sold to raise funds. After hearing about the event, other artists I work with have expressed a wish to enter pieces of their work into the exhibition.” A percentage of the proceeds from their paintings, etchings, prints, pottery, jewellery and cards will go towards Saint Michael’s. Please do come along and support our exhibition. This will be a lovely social occasion and our fine wine tasting gives you the opportunity to test your wine knowledge. With prizes of wine for the correct answers in each wine category and delicious canapes on offer, it will be a great way to start the Bank Holiday weekend early.

Tickets for the event are £15 and are available from nicola@buscallgallery.co.uk, 07801 439555 or online at www.buscallgallery.co.uk or by phoning Saint Michael’s Hospice on 01423 879687.
