Harrogate Town 1 -1 Leamington

13 April 2014

Harrogate and Leamington ground out a dull end of season draw at the CNG Stadium.

In a slow start the recalled, Dan Clayton centred for Steve Mallory to threaten with a header, while Leamington’s Joe Magunda lofted well over from thirty yards.

Town began to hit their stride and Matt Heath chested down a Matt Bloomer free kick to Ashley Worsfold, but the Brakes defence blocked his shot.

The vistors dealt with a Liam Hardy header from Craig Nelthorpe’s corner, and on 27 minutes they took the lead.

Craig MacGillivray missed his punch from a right wing corner, leaving the unmarked, James Mace to tap in from close range.

Adam Bolder and Cleveland Taylor replaced Mallory and Hardy at half time and Town began to create chances.

Nelthorpe shot wide after Taylor squared across the penalty area, but halfway through the half Town equalised.

A Dave Merris throw dispatched Nelthorpe down the left and Worsfold was on hand at the near post to guide home his low centre past Tony Breeden.

Michael Woods replaced Anton Brown on the hour, but it was the Brakes who were next to threaten when Danny Newton headed over a Mace free kick.

Merris found Clayton on the left but Worsfold headed his cross over the top, while Woods blazed over, after the Leamington defence only half cleared Nelthorpe’s free kick.

Leamington sub,Peter Till made an opening for fellow sub,Matt Dodd, but he could only shoot weakly at MacGillivray.

The last action saw Merris break through the middle, but drag his shot well wide.

Town now face a difficult trip to Guiseley on Tuesday evening.
