Traffic: A1(M) northbound to be closed for vehicle recovery (4 April 2014 @ 8pm)

4 April 2014

On 4 April 2014, the A1(M) will be closed between junction 60 and 61 near Durham this evening to recover a HGV which has left the carriageway.

The northbound carriageway closure will be put in place at junction 60 (Bradbury) from 8pm this evening.

The closure is necessary following an incident on the evening of 2 April, where an HGV left the northbound carriageway and came to rest an adjacent field.

Recovery of the vehicle will be complex and is likely to take a number of hours. The vehicle has travelled around 40 metres into a water logged field, is unstable and is fully laden.

During the closure, which will only affect the northbound carriageway, the Highways Agency will also be carrying out earth work at West Cornforth which was already planned to take place this evening under lane restrictions.

Drivers are advised to plan their journeys around the area this evening to avoid delays.
