Organisations line up for Knaresborough Community Day

4 April 2014

The Knaresborough Community Day has nearly 30 different organisations lined up to run information booths and do demonstrations at the Centre on Gracious Street (COGS) on Saturday 26 April 2014.

The event is free for all and starts at 10am and runs through to 4pm.

The organisations include police and fire service, first aid, the home library, the men’s forum, Age UK, district voluntary services, Knaresborough in Bloom, Fit for Fun, the Stroke Association and Yorkshire Yoga.

There will be nurses on hand to conduct diabetes, lung function and blood pressure testing. The Council’s economic development committee will be represented, as will Henshaws, Dementia Forward, the Scouts and Guides and the new group Teens for Engineering.

Yorkshire Yoga will be providing information on the new pastime of Nordic Walking. Powerstream, the project to harness the Nidd for local energy, will have an information booth as will the Neighbourhood Planners for Knaresborough, the Harrogate Easier Living Project and the Knaresborough Lions Club.

Andrew Jones MP will open the event and will run his MP’s surgery through to 4 pm.

All are welcome. Knaresborough Lions will arrange free transport for those who need it, and are funding free tea and coffee. Soup-and-a-cake will be sold for just £1 per person.

The Community Day is for the people of Knaresborough and surrounding areas to help them with issues facing from health to community developments, with the emphasis on providing advice from public and private services and showing what those services can offer.

People interested in finding out more or arranging transport can email communityday@outlook.com or ring Lion John on 07964 469837.
