One in ten at risk – stroke awareness day

1 April 2014

The Rotary Club of Harrogate Brigantes is arranging a day of free blood pressure tests on Saturday 5 April 2014 at the ASDA store in Harrogate. Anyone who would like to have their blood pressure checked should come along between 10am and 4 pm. The Mayor of Harrogate, Cllr Michael Newby, will be supporting the event on the day.

This is the eleventh year in which the Club has supported Stroke Awareness Day in this way.

The President of the Club, Mike Hammond, commented: Many of the strokes that kill and maim can be prevented. High blood pressure remains the biggest risk factor but often shows no symptoms. Last year 10% of the people we tested were referred immediately to their doctors with high blood pressure.

In the United Kingdom over 50,000 people a year have a stroke. Don’t let it be you this coming year.

Rotarian Alisdair Stewart who is helping to organise the event says: Come and have your blood pressure checked at the upstairs Car Park entrance inside ASDA. We want to see far fewer strokes and ruined lives.
