Picturesque setting for new caravan site

24 March 2014

A new caravan park is to open in the spa town of Harrogate, following an investment of over £100,000 by the site owners the Yorkshire Agricultural Society.

Named the Harrogate Caravan Park, it is situated in the picturesque Crimple Valley, adjacent to the Great Yorkshire Showground. It will open on Thursday 27 March 2014 and will close for this season in mid-November.

There are a total of 66 pitches, which are a mix of hard standing and grass. Wifi, new roads, drainage, electrics and new heated washroom facilities have been installed as part of the £100,000+ investment. Bus and train services are within easy walking distance as is Fodder the award-winning shop and café and a large supermarket is close by. Bookings are already coming in and the site is full on the opening weekend, and also for the Tour de France weekend (5th and 6th July), and for the Great Yorkshire Show Harrogate-Caravan(Tuesday 8 – Thursday 10 July).

Heather Parry, Deputy Chief Executive of the Society said: We have a beautiful site on the outskirts of Harrogate and it is wonderful to be able to offer visitors an additional accommodation choice. We wanted to make sure our guests have the best possible experience so in advance of the opening we held a ‘soft opening’ with 53 caravans staying to test the site – and the feedback was great; they loved it. So now we are busy with the last of the planting and painting in readiness for the official opening. We believe we have a unique venue, with high quality facilities, in a great location and look forward to becoming a popular choice for business and holiday guests.

Caravan enthusiasts John and Vicky Boyes (pictured) have now taken up their roles as resident Wardens, having most recently managed a site in Wales and are looking forward to welcoming visitors to the Harrogate Caravan Park.

The news follows the announcement earlier this month that the Yorkshire Agricultural Society is applying for planning permission to replace one of its two exhibition halls in a £10m project. The showground attracts a wide variety of events each year, ranging from weddings, to conferences and exhibitions.
