Vice Lord-Lieutenant appointed

Her Majesty The Queen and The Prime Minister have approved the appointment of Brigadier John Wardle OBE DL as Vice Lord-Lieutenant of North Yorkshire in place of Colonel Edward York TD DL who retired on 22nd February 2014.

Johnny Wardle, formerly Coldstream Guards, completed military service in December 1995 in the rank of Brigadier.

He was Chairman of Northallerton Health Services NHS Trust from September 1996 and reappointed in 1999. He formed Craven, Harrogate and Rural District PCT in April 2002 and served as Chairman until October 2006 when it was amalgamated with the three other North Yorkshire primary care trusts to form NHS North Yorkshire and York. He chaired this Trust until March 2010.

He currently chairs the Advisory Council and Management Board of the NHS Staff College which he co-founded with Professor Aidan Halligan, formerly a Deputy Medical Director of England.

He served for nine years on the Lord Chancellor’s Advisory Committee for North Yorkshire and was a Littlethorpe Parish Councillor for eight years

He is a member of the Royal Yacht Squadron and Commodore of the Household Division Yacht Club.

Johnny Wardle was awarded the Queen’s Commendation in 1965; appointed OBE in 1997 and a Deputy Lieutenant in 2004.

He married Janie, nee Ingham in 1970. They live in Littlethorpe.
