‘Magical’ school performance delights all

24 February 2014

Harrogate High School held its annual school production, this year ‘Magic of the Musicals’ over four nights to a packed out theatre each time.

Like last year local primary schools are involved in the show with students from Willow Tree, Hookstone Chase, Starbeck, Woodfield and Follifoot sharing the vocal and dance duties on different evenings.

The show, directed once again by the schools Head of Performing Arts Judith Howe, comprised over 50 student performers including songs from the most loved musicals including Les Miserable, Dirty Dancing, We will Rock You, Hairspray, Jersey Boys, Rent, Starlight Express and The Motown Story.

One stand out moment from the show was the return of the schools ‘boy band’ after their success in a charity concert. Liam Gambles, Nathan Malton, Niall Summerton and Ben Robinson strut their stuff to perform two Take That classics assisted by the local primary schools around them on stage. All of their voices together made for a truly magical atmosphere.

The production has allowed everyone to get involved, not only have the school seen performances from year 7 right through to the Sixth Form and primary school involvement but since rehearsals in September students parents have been hard at work assisting with making costumes. The performances also count towards part of the Year 13 performing arts group A-level course.

School Principal, Andrew Bayston said: The school production is one of our main events of the year. Seeing students working together in harmony right through from Year 7 to Sixth Form, putting on a fantastic show is something we are very proud of. Having primary school inclusion for the second year running also makes the show that extra special – everyone who came thought the show was one of the best yet!
