Spate of burglaries in Harrogate

19 February 2014

Harrogate has recently seen a spate of  burglaries and the police are urging people to be vigilant.

Between Sunday 16 February and Monday 17 February 2014, three houses were broken into Bilton Lane, Stonecrop Avenue and Columbine Grove.

Jewellery, three laptops and an iPad were taken during the burglaries.

Earlier in the month four sheds and a garage were also targeted by thieves on Primrose Close, Saltergate Drive, Stone Bramble and Orchid way. Two mountain bikes were taken in the incidents.

Officers are appealing for people to be vigilant and review their security arrangements.

Temporary Sgt Lee Partridge, of Harrogate police, said: We have experienced a rise in burglaries, particularly shed break-ins, primarily between late morning and early evening in the Jennyfields area.

Residents can reduce criminal opportunities by securing all premises including garages and sheds and keeping valuable items such as push bikes out of view through windows.

To help us reduce these offences I would like to appeal to residents to make a note of any suspicious vehicles or people and report them to the police or Crimestoppers as soon as possible.

If you would like to report any suspicious activity in your area contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 1 – and pass information to the Force Control Room.

If you prefer not to give your name, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
