Harrogate Railway Ladies 7 – 0 Silsden Ladies

16 February 2014

After a 7 week break due to bad weather Harrogate Railway Ladies finally got a game played, even then they had to pay £100 to get on a 3G pitch.

Railway were playing host to Silsden Ladies in the league and came away a comfortable 7-0 win. In the first 6 minutes Rail had won 4 corners with one being struck by Nicola Hadley which hit the cross bar, the 5th corner came on 8 minutes and skipper Ally Purvis delivered it in with great height and curled into the fat top corner, 1-0. From the re start Silsden lost possession and Ellie Macleod played the ball out to the left to Sandra Clark who took the ball down to the touch line, pulled it back for Dee Swales to strike home her first of 5, 2-0. Railway were all over Silsden for the first 25 minutes but then they seemed to loose concentration and Silsden made a few chances but were kept out by keeper Charllote Donnelly.

At half time Railway should have been a good few more goals to the good so with a pep talk from the manager they came out eager to improve the tally, and so with good strong pressure from the whistle railway pressed, it was on the 52nd minute when Chloe Elphick fed the ball through for Jodi Hodgson who turned on the spot and slot the ball into the bottom left corner, 3-0. Dee found herself in some great positions for the next two goals feeding of some fantastic passes into feet, Silsden managed to gain some sort of pressure on rails defence but all attacks got shut out.

Silsden won a corner on 85 minutes which Railway defended well playing the ball out quickly and releasing Dee who was just inside her half, Dee took one touch past her marker and went one on one with the keeper her finish was excellent pushing the ball low to the right and into the net, 6-0. Silsden were well beaten by now and on the 87th minute Silsdens keeper took down Dee in the box, penalty, Dee stepped up to make it 7-0.

A good performance from the Railway Ladies but still room for improvement and 3 more points in their quest to defend the title. Next week Railway again face Silsden at home in the league cup and hopefully it will be played on grass at station view KO 1-30pm.
