MP sees ‘out of this world’ manufacturing on visit to local company.

Knaresborough company, Claro Precision Engineering welcomed Andrew Jones MP to the shopfloor this week to see the latest high-tech machinery and meet staff and management at the growing company.

The company, situated on Manse Lane since 1983, manufactures a variety of products for use in surgery, lasers and even satellites. Most recently, Claro Precision Engineering has manufactured components for new European GPS satellites which are due to be launched into orbit shortly.

The firm employees 50 people and has a strong longstanding commitment to apprenticeships dating back over 30 years. Many of the company’s most senior posts are occupied by people who started as apprentices. During the visit Mr Jones met staff working in the milling section of the company and also Design Engineer Peter Curran (pictured with Mr Jones).

Following the visit, Andrew commented: Manufacturing is crucial to the economic growth of the country and of our area. Here in Harrogate and Knaresborough a significant number of people are employed in manufacturing and much of that is in high tech industry like Claro Precision Engineering. It was fascinating to hear about the range of products and the many sectors in which those products are used.

I was impressed by the company’s commitment to its workforce. As the Apprenticeship Ambassador for Parliament I enjoyed meeting staff who had come through the company’s apprenticeship program.

Martin Doxey, Managing Director of Claro Precision Engineering, added: I am a champion of manufacturing and never pass up an opportunity to promote the industry. That is why it was good to meet Andrew Jones and talk to him about our people and products.

We are an award-winning company and part of the community too providing jobs for 50 local people and sponsoring the Rotary Club’s Technology Challenge for schools. It is good to know that we have the support of our local MP.
