80’s night gets the groove on

To a packed audience Harrogate High School held ‘80’s night’.

The evening was organised by students; Liam Gambles, Nathan Malton, Helena Popplewell, Chelsie Ward and Niall Summerton who also make up the band Purple Hazard organised the evening as part of their BTEC music course.

The evening consisted of a number of performances from students across the school all with an 80s theme. Hits such as ‘Making your Mind Up’ by performed by the staff band, ‘I wanna dance with somebody’ by Year 9 Chloe Campbell and ‘Like a Prayer’ performed by Year 12 Courtney Kilpatrick were played on the night. The audience also had the opportunity for a dance on a professional dance floor, kindly lent to Harrogate High School by Divine Dance Floor Hires based in Knaresborough.

Harrogate High School choir also performed with the Glee version of ‘Video Killed the Radio Star’ by The Buggles.

Head of Music Amber Southern said: The night was planned and put into place by our Year 13 BTEC students as part of a unit for their course. It was a huge success, with students from all year’s groups performing famous tunes from the 80s. With a full to capacity audience and many fellow peers and parents in fancy dress themselves, it was a fun evening to remember with all credit to the students that planned it.
