Home win for Harrogate Railway against Clitheroe

19 January 2014

Harrogate Railway welcomed Clitheroe FC to Station View and came from behind to do the double over their Lancastrian rivals.

Railway started brightly hitting the post 3 times in the first 3 minutes only for Clitheroe to break on the right with a sweet cross converted by Paul Coote 0-1 Clitheroe after only 4 minutes. Railway were dealt another blow as inform defender Simon Wood was replaced by Craig Radcliffe on 21 minutes with a sever calf strain.

In form and in the news Nathan Catrman got us back on track with a superb individual goal. Receiving the ball Cartman runs into a defensive cult-de-sac and has his back to goal with the blink of an eye Cartman had twisted free, shot and scored. 1-1 39 minutes.

The half ended with Peter Crook tipping the ball on to the bar with a superb one handed save from a vicious drive from the edge of the area. Adding to Railways woe’s Lawrence Hunter is helps off the pitch after a meaty challenge leaves him with an ankle injury that could see him out for quite a while.

The Second half starts with Fatlum Ibrahim coming on for Lawrence Hunter. Rail again start the brighter with Alex Metcalfe and Robbie Youhill causing the visitors problems. indeed it was another one of Youhill’s attacking runs that lead to Railways penalty. Twice fouled but allowed to play on Youhill kept going and entered the box only to be knocked off the ball by Clitheroe’s James Walker. Colin Hunter stepped up and dispatched the ball into the top left corner of the net with great venom. 2-1 Railway 52 minutes.

On 63 minutes Si Parkes jarred his knee going into a challenge which saw him been stretchered off and taken to hospital. Lets hope it proves to be not as serious as first thought. Greg Kidd comes on to replace him.

Colin Hunter looks to have sealed the win for Railway with an unstoppable goal from the edge of the area, 3-1 on 73 minutes. However Clitheroe to their credit didn’t allow their heads to drop and finished the game very strong. A free kick was awarded to the left of the penalty area and was swung in invitingly with Ross Dent heading home unmarked on the back post. Despite the 7 minutes stoppage time Railway hung on for a great win that leap frogs us over our opponents into 11th in the table
