St John Fisher students re-design corporate logo for Baby Roots

2 January 2014

St John Fisher Catholic High School in Harrogate has worked closely with a local business to run a competition for the school’s talented graphic arts students.

Angela Ward of Baby Roots, a company that sells trees in a bag, was so impressed with the quality of work produced by the Art Department after visiting an Open Day that she asked the school if they would be interested in running a competition to re-design a logo for her Christmas tree products.

The competition, open to Years 9 and 10, resulted in over 50 entries. In December, three finalists were selected from the best ten works of art produced. Although it proved difficult, the final winning image of Santa’s boots in a gardening perspective proved decisive for a victorious Alex Horsfall.

Angela said: Alex’s image stood out as it was simple but creative, showing a fresh approach to the project and thinking outside the box.

The winning artwork will be used on the cards accompanying the Boot Roots ‘Grow with me’ Christmas trees for the next few years.

Head of Art, Mr Barton said: At SJF we always push the students to use their abilities and talents to great effect. Our school is alive with exciting projects and initiatives such as this one with Baby Roots. It allows the students to see that their work is more than just a piece of art.
