28 December 2013

A man has been arrested on suspicion of child abduction following an urgent response from North Yorkshire Police.

The man, a York resident aged 34, was detained at Luton airport this afternoon (Saturday 28 December 2013), at the request of officers from North Yorkshire.

Earlier in the day, York CID had launched an urgent investigation after a woman from York reported that her two-year-old boy had been taken by her husband, who intended to leave the country.

The child was located safe and well on a plane about to leave England by officers from the UK Border Agency and will be reunited with his mother.

The suspect was arrested on the plane and is currently being transported back to York where he will be questioned by officers from North Yorkshire Police’s Major Crime and Protecting Vulnerable Persons Units.

Detective Superintendent Dai Malyn, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “North Yorkshire Police is extremely grateful to our partners at the UK Border Agency and the other law enforcement agencies at the airport for their swift and effective response.

I would also like to thank all the staff from North Yorkshire Police who were involved in this fast moving incident.
