Police hunt wanted York man

19 December 2013

Police in York are urging a wanted man to hand himself in as they appeal for the public’s help to find him.

Steven Thompson, 48, is wanted for failing to appear at the York Magistrates’ Court on Monday 2 December 2013, charged with assault.

The appearance relates to an incident at a pub on Malton Road, York, which occurred on Tuesday 1 October 2013, when a 49-year-old woman was assaulted.

Thompson is described as being white, 6ft 1in tall with a medium build and brown hair.

He is believed to be in the York area.

Detective Inspector Dave Kirby, of York CID, said:

Steven, if you see or hear this appeal, I advise you to hand yourself in at the nearest police station. This is not an issue that will go away and you are only delaying your inevitable arrest.

I urge anyone who knows where Thompson is to contact the police straight away.

Officers have already made visits to address where we believe Thompson has connections. These visits will continue until he is back in custody.

Anyone who may be shielding Thompson needs to know that they are not helping him, they only making things worse and may be committing offences themselves. If this is the case they may well be prosecuted.

Anyone who can help locate Steven Thompson should contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for option 1 and pass the details to the Force Control Room.

Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
