Conmen target 83-year-old Knaresborough woman

Police are warning members of the public and appealing for information after an elderly woman’s bank card was stolen in Lidl car park in Knaresborough.

At around 3.20pm on Wednesday 17 December 2013, an 83-year-old Knaresborough woman was approached in the car park on York Road by a man and woman described as Eastern European.

They told the woman that she had dropped a £5 note and while they were distracting her with their story, they managed to steal her bank card from her handbag.

The pair then spent over £600 on the card in the space of two hours until the victim realised her card was missing.

Police are liaising with forces in other areas where similar incidents have taken place. In the meantime they are asking people to be policeon their guard against anyone who approaches them in this way.

Anyone who was in Lidl car park on York Road, Knaresborough around the time of the incident is asked to contact Harrogate police.
