Santa fun run raises money for dementia care

11 December 2013

Hundreds of Santas descended on Ripon racecourse to run and raise money for charity on Sunday, 1 December 2013.

A total of 195 runners donned Santa suits to run the 3km course for Dementia Forward’s second Santa Fun Run.

Dementia Forward’s Community Liaison Officer, Netty Newell, said:

The day was a huge success and we had more than double the number of Santas running that we had last year.

We’re working to make the event a regular fixture in the calendars of local runners and anyone who wants to have a bit of festive fun for a good cause.

Our Santa Fun Run allows us to raise awareness of dementia and raise much-needed funds to help us continue our vital work in the local community.

Harrogate Santa

The mayors of Boroughbridge, Harrogate and Ripon showed that they were game for a laugh by joining the runners for a pre-race warm-up zumba session.

The three mayors and their deputies, along with the Bellman of Ripon, then officially started the race.

Funds raised by the Santa Fun Run will support the work of Dementia Forward – a registered charity supporting people living with dementia in the Ripon and Harrogate district.
