UKIP prospective MEPs to address Harrogate meeting

10 December 2013

UKIP and its policies will go under the spotlight this Monday (16 December 2013) when its prospective MEPs address a public meeting in Harrogate.

Jane Collins, Amjad Bashir and Mike Hookem will be speaking at the party’s Harrogate & Knaresborough branch meeting, being held at 7.30pm in the Old Swan Hotel.

Joining the three on the platform will be UKIP County Councillor David Simister, who represents Bilton and Nidd Gorge Division on North Yorkshire County Council.

UKIP’s Harrogate and Knaresborough Chairman John Upex said:

We are delighted to have our prospective MEPs joining us at Monday’s meeting.

Unlike other political parties, our meetings are open to non members and we would encourage as many people as possible to come along.

On Monday, they will be able to listen to, and meet, those standing for Ukip in next May’s European Union elections. The three come from very different backgrounds and have had a wealth of real-life experience between them.

We see May 22, 2014, as our ‘referendum on Europe’. We know the vast majority of people in Yorkshire are concerned about immigration, which is putting a strain on public services, even here in Harrogate.

Mr Upex, who is also the local party’s Parliamentary candidate, added:

Only Ukip is offering a real alternative to the other parties.

The result is the Harrogate and Knaresborough branch of Ukip is going from strength to strength.

Last May, we fought a very successful and highly visible county council election. This saw David Simister topping the poll in Bilton and Nidd Gorge, and Ukip coming second in many of the divisions.

In the early new year we will be unveiling our local election manifesto and parading our candidates for the local district elections, also being held on May 22, 2014.

Monday’s meeting, which is open to the public, starts at 7.30pm. Further information is available by contacting UKIP Harrogate & Knaresborough on 01423 815703.
