Special anniversary dance show will help autistic society

8 December 2013

A special anniversary gala show at Harrogate’s Royal Hall on 25/26 January  2014 will not only celebrate local dancer and teacher Andie Nydza’s years of dedication to performance and pupils, but will help raise cash for the Harrogate and District National Autistic Society.

“A Gala Celebration – The Little Books of Beatrix Potter and 30 Years of Dance” will offer a showcase of all Andie’s pupils’ talents, from the very youngest ‘Babies’ to current advanced pupils and former pupils-turned-professionals, many of whom have gone on to perform with some of the top ballet and musical theatre companies around the world.

But Andie is particularly affected by two of her younger students.

Andie explained:

For the first time in my teaching career, I have two young pupils who are autistic. Working with them has taught me an incredible amount. It’s been a steep learning curve and their parents are brilliant, but it has been a privilege and a delight to see how music and movement has appealed to them and helped them interact and participate with other children.

I would encourage any parent to consider dance classes to bring out the best in their child and open up a world of beauty, friendship and adventure as well as instilling values which will help them all their lives.

After a successful performing career on stage and television and in international tours whichbegan 50 years ago, Andie founded the Nydza School of Dance and Performing Arts in 1983. Based in Bingley originally, the school moved in 2011 to the Q20 Theatre at the Creative Arts Hub in Shipley.
