Visit of Lord Hill and Nigel Adams MP to Goldsborough CE Primary School

3 December 2013

Goldsborough CE Primary School pupils were delighted to welcome the leader of the House of Lords, The Rt Hon Lord Hill, and MP for Selby and Ainsty, Nigel Adams, into school for a question and answer session last week.

Following a tour of the school, Lord Hill and Mr Adams met with pupils and gave them the opportunity to find out more about the role of a member of parliament. Amongst the many excellent questions that were posed to these special visitors, pupils found out about the day to day life of a Member of Parliament, how Lord Hill gained his title and how to become an MP.

Mr Adams was then invited to contribute to preparing a Christmas cake mixture that was created as part of a message delivered by Reverend Esther Foss.

The visit to Goldsborough School was part of Lord Hill and Mr Adams’ informal reception at Goldsborough Hall where they met with residents of Goldsborough village who were given the opportunity to discuss the ‘issues that matter’ with two leading political figures.

Headteacher, Matt Shillito, said:

We were honoured to welcome such special guests into our school last week and we are very grateful to Mark and Clare Oglesby at Goldsborough Hall and school governor Lance Ogden for including us in their plans.

Our pupils were fascinated by the roles carried out by Lord Hill and Mr Adams and the quality of their questions demonstrated this keen interest. We were delighted to receive such complimentary comments from the former education secretary Lord Hill about our school- as a staff team, we know how well behaved, intelligent and delightful our pupils are as we are privileged to work with them every day, but to hear that same message from such esteemed guests is extra special!

This visit is the second time Nigel Adams MP has visited the school as he took part in last year’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations by enjoying a Fish and Chip lunch with pupils and staff as part of the school’s Garden Party.
