National Police Aid Convoys need help to fill containers heading for the Philippines

18 November 2013

The National Police Aid Convoys charity warehouse in Harrogate is appealing for help to fill containers leaving for the Philippines next year.

The charity chairman is retired Inspector David Scott and is stressing that the items most needed are all types of clothing, shoes, cooking equipment, small tools and even school furniture. Children’s toys and electrical items are not needed for this specific appeal for support.

Items can be dropped off at their depot next to the Western Primary School on the Cold Bath Road.

David Scott said:

We all want to do something to assist and relieve the suffering but neither the space, infrastructure or manpower is available on the 2000 inhabited islands to deal with us at the moment.

The intention of NPAC is to use their police contacts and influence to identify remoter communities and send comprehensive containers of aid to them before next June (when the rainy season starts again).

The containers will carry replacement school and clinic furniture, filled with useful items like pots and pans, and padded out with clothes and shoes.

We will monitor the use and send more focussed goods as the need is reduced.

Charity administrator Laura Cove said:

This is what we are good at when dealing with disasters so far away.

We responded immediately to the refugee camps in the Balkans but we have to be restrained when the distance is so great.

The charity also provides support to individuals in the region who need support during difficult times. A referrals is needed from a support professional as they can’t give support without a referral.

Donations can be taken to the depot at the rear of 34 Cold Bath Road during office hours, or can be collected by leaving a message on 0844 8701 999.

Any monetary donations to help with the cost of transport can be left at the depot or sent through the Charity Checkout website.

NPAC is an entirely voluntary charity – see www.npac.org.uk for more details.
