Harrogate’s Mayor learns from learners at Disability Action Yorkshire’s Training Service Centre

2 November 2013

Harrogate’s Mayor has learned about the valuable services a Harrogate charity provides for disabled people from the very people it benefits.

Coun Michael Newby spent the morning at Disability Action Yorkshire’s training centre on the town’s Hornbeam Park, speaking to learners about the facility and the services it offers.

The aim of the charity’s training centre is to empower disabled people to live the lifestyle of their choosing, and to provide a range of high-quality services which support disabled people.

Training is given to enhance the personal and social development, employability and job searching skills.

Jackie Snape, Disability Action Yorkshire’s chief executive, said:

We were delighted to welcome Coun Newby to our training centre and give him the opportunity to meet our learners.

He was very interested in the work Disability Action does, and the learners were very keen to tell him about their individual training plans and their goals.

Coun Newby also bought along his Mace, robes and Chains of Office and spoke about the role of being Mayor of the Borough of Harrogate.

We have a long and proud association with Harrogate, and last year we celebrated our 75th anniversary. Our training centre provides a valuable service to disabled people who want live and lead independent lifestyles.

We assess each individual as to what training and support is needed, and we customise and personalise the package to their own personal needs.

We believe that our learners have the abilities to gain a paid employment and have a chance to contribute to society using the skills they have learnt from us
