Tiggy Clifford, a former partner at Denison Till, York, joins Newtons Solicitors’ York office at Northminster Park as the firm’s seventh director. Her role is to develop the Employment Law Department across the six offices within the group.
Other appointments include solicitors Amanda Cuthbert, from McCormicks, Harrogate and Emma Hartley, previously of Guest Walker, York, who strengthen the Family Law Team. Claire Rhodes joins from Levis Solicitors, Leeds, as the sixth lawyer to join the Litigation Team led by director, Rob Minors.
The appointments follow Newtons Solicitors becoming among the first law firms in North Yorkshire to achieve Alternative Business Structure (ABS) status and the opening of a new Newtons Solicitors office in York in January. New group offices also opened in Richmond and Darlington following the acquisition of Hodgons & Mortimer Solicitors last year.
Managing director, Chris Newton, says:
These appointments are part of our expansion plans to become a £5M business within the medium term and bring together people who have worked together at various Yorkshire law firms but now see their long-term future at Newtons.
Tiggy Clifford has an excellent client following in York and is a great asset to our corporate team. We have some exciting projects planned including an online HR portal to help clients manage their responsibilities towards their employees on line.
The volume of high-quality new business we are winning means we have to take on more experienced lawyers to keep servicing our clients.

Joining such a rapidly-expanding practice and having the autonomy to develop the Employment Law Department is a very exciting opportunity.
