Harrogate bank card theft

16 October 2013

Police investigating the theft of a bank card in Harrogate have released an image of a man they need to trace.

It occurred at around 3.30pm on Wednesday 28 August 2013, when an elderly couple were returning a trolley at the Morrisons supermarket, Plumpton Park.

They were approached by a man who claimed that they had dropped a £10 note. The suspect distracted the victim and for a short time had the wallet in his possession. A few minutes later the man realised that his bank card had been taken.

It is believed that the card was passed to a second man who used it to make steal money from the account. This is thought to be the man caught on CCTV.

PC Emma Hayes, of Harrogate Safer Neighbourhood Team, said:

If you are the man caught on camera and you are not involved with this theft, I urge you to contact the police straight away, as I need to eliminate you from my investigation.

I am also keen to speak to anyone who can identify him and ask them to get in touch as soon as possible.

Anyone who can assist with this enquiry should contact Harrogate police on 101, select option 2 and ask for Emma Hayes. Alternatively, information can be emailed to emma.hayes@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk

Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111, quoting reference number 12130149513.
