Volunteer with our award winning parks team

1 October 2013

Harrogate Borough Council’s award winning parks team is setting up some new volunteering opportunities.

You will get the chance to work alongside some of the country’s most highly regarded professional council gardeners. When people like Alan Titchmarsh highlight the quality of the district’s parks and open spaces, you know you have the best of the crop.

If you can give a hand to this highly qualified and dedicated team, you will take home handy tips to make the best out of your own garden. You will gain useful experience and meet the men and women who are responsible for our beautiful parks and open spaces. And, of course you will get to spend time in the open air doing something positive to support your local area. We know that the quality of parks and gardens attracts visitors and add to what makes it a great place to live and work.

On Tuesday 8 October 2013 volunteers are invited to help the team strip out the beds on West Park in Harrogate and on Wednesday 9 October 2013 they want volunteers to work with the team at Ripon Spa Gardens.

Patrick Kilburn, the council’s Head of Parks and Open Spaces says these are pilot volunteering sessions:

We rely heavily on all our volunteers, particularly through a number of very active Friends’ Groups. But many people are happy to give a helping hand on a more ad hoc basis and without necessarily wanting to be part of a bigger group.

If these pilots work we plan to hold more volunteering opportunities throughout our parks and open spaces.

Inductions will be at 12.30pm and you would be working from 1.00 till 3.00pm alongside some of our gardening staff.

If you can help, contact Kate Dawson, Parks Development Officer on 01423 500600.
