Linen company director walking China’s great wall for charity

2 September 2013

A Harrogate finance director will be swapping her calculator and spreadsheet for hiking boots and walking socks, as she aims to undertake a gruelling trek along China’s Great Wall.

Linda has chosen this cause after Yorkshire Linen Co colleague Dan Kilvington’s son, Scott, was born last December at just 28 weeks and weighed under 2Lbs.

On September 7, Linda will be embarking on the charity trek, which will see her – along with others from all over the country – walking for five days on, and along, the famous Wonder of the World.

Linda has chosen this cause after Yorkshire Linen Co colleague Dan Kilvington’s son, Scott, was just last December at just 28 weeks and weighed under 2Lbs.

Scott, together with his mum Kelly Chapman spent the first two months of his life in Sheffield Children’s Hospital. He then spent another month in Leeds General Infirmary before being transferred to Harrogate District Hospital.

Now at eight months old, Scott is at home with his parents in Harrogate and weighs 12lb 14 oz.

Linda said:

Every year The Yorkshire Linen Co supports a local charity, but, because of Scott, we decided this time we would back Bliss, which is a national charity supporting premature babies and their families.

I have set myself a target to raise £10,000 and, thanks to the support and generosity of colleagues, family and friends, I’ve already raised £6,000.

Compared to the trek, which will see us walking between five and seven hours a day, that will be the easy part!

I am looking forward to the challenge very much, albeit with some trepidation. Over the last few months I’ve been walking daily and training hard at the gym to help prepare me for what lies ahead.

I’m delighted to say that thanks to the wonderful care of the hospitals, and the support of Bliss, Scott is doing fine.

The money I raise will be used to help support babies and parents just like Scott, Dan and Kelly.
