I would like to congratulate all those who received their A level results today.

There’s no question that an A level is a great personal achievement requiring hard work and application. There are many hundreds of students across my constituency who are collecting their results today and celebrating the fruits of that hard work.

Along with those students, it is important to recognise the teachers and staff in schools and colleges for their dedication and commitment in preparing their students for these challenging exams.

It takes a while to put together comparisons but it seems that in North Yorkshire there has been an improvement in the average results again and that North Yorkshire remains in the top ten per cent for A level achievements.

Some will not have achieved the grades for which they hoped. I would say to them not to be too disheartened. There are many options open to them and they should take their time to examine them.

Once again well done to everyone and I wish all the very best of luck to all students in whatever they decide to do in the future.
