Leyburn lorry thefts prompts warning

14 August 2013

Police are urging haulage firms to be vigilant following the theft of a curtain-sided lorry from Leyburn.

The six-wheel Scania vehicle was taken from Moor Road, overnight between Monday 12 August and Tuesday 13 August 2013.

Officers are appealing to businesses to ensure that all their vehicles are properly secured at all times to prevent any further thefts from occurring.

Sgt Nick Hill, of North Yorkshire Police, said:

In the current financial climate firms can ill-afford to lose any of their assets and I am urging business owners to ensure that security is high on their agenda.

Please make sure your vehicles are locked in secure compounds when not in use and it is also a good idea to use tracker Policesystems and GPS locators to give you a better chance of getting your lorries back if they are stolen.

I would also urge people to report any suspicious people or vehicles to the police as soon as possible.
