Milk tanker overturns on A1

At 1455 hours on 3 August 2013, the  Fire Service were called to a milk tanker which had overturned in the area of the A1 south bound carriageway Gatherley to Catterick.

Fire Crews from Richmond, Colburn, Bedale Fire Station attended as well as specialist crews from Harrogate Fire Station.

Upon arrival crews found that the driver was not trapped in the vehicle but seriously injured, he was taken to hospital by air ambulance.

The tanker was believed to be carrying 28500 litres of milk and crews helped prevent the leaking milk from entering drains and water courses using specialist equipment.

As of 18:40 the south bound remains closed with a diversion in place.
