Pitch your tent in picture perfect surroundings

1 August 2013

This summer the National Trust has created two new ‘pop-up’ campsites, giving holiday makers an exclusive opportunity to sleep under the stars in the stunning Yorkshire countryside.

In the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, just above Malham, and in Calderdale at Hardcastle Crags, Hebden Bridge, the new campsites, only available for August¹, are the perfect place to pitch a tent for a Yorkshire summer holiday.

The Malham site is in the heart of limestone country, not far from Malham Tarn and close to the Pennine Way. It’s a great place to bring the family, as Martin Davies, property manager for the National Trust in the Yorkshire Dales, said:

This will be our second year of hosting a summer campsite and thanks to the glorious sunshine and recent good weather, there’s a real buzz around people looking for the a summer holiday location.

Our campsite is in an ideal spot – where else can you wake to the sound of silence, save for the birds and the odd sheep in the distance! We’ve also got a number of events taking place throughout the summer, including nature walks at night and mountain bike taster days.

Hardcastle Crags is a wooded valley on the edge of Hebden Bridge. The campsite is in the perfect location for walking and exploring, as Judith Patrick, property manager at Hardcastle Crags, said:

This is our first time opening a campsite here at Hardcastle Crags and we hope it will prove to be very popular. The Crags is made for walking and discovering wildlife. Families can come and hunt for bugs, have a go at den building or geocaching, whilst ticking things off their list of 50 things² to do before you’re 11 and ¾.

Both campsites have great facilities include home luxuries like showers and flushing toilets. Four-legged visitors are welcome too, so dogs can come along for the family holiday.

Bookings for pitches are now open and demand is growing. To reserve a pitch or find out more information, log onto www.nationaltrust.org.uk/yorkshire
