Father and daughter injured in collison

28 July 2013

North Yorkshire Police is appealing for witnesses and information about a head-on crash on the A658 in the Harrogate District.

It happened at about 6am today (Sunday 28 July 2013) on the A658 between Huby and Pool-in-Wharfedale, opposite the Biffa business park.

It involved a grey Citroen C5 estate taxi which was heading towards Pool-in-Wharefedale, and a white Ford Transit tipper van that was heading towards Harrogate.

The rear passengers in the taxi, a 10-year-old girl and her 43-year-old dad, from the Richmond area, were taken by ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary with chest and abdominal injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The driver of the taxi, a man aged 55 and from the Richmond area, was taken to Harrogate District Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Transit van, aged 50 and from the Humberside area, had to be freed by firefighters. He suffered a suspected broken collar bone and was taken by ambulance to Harrogate District Hospital.

Local diversions have been in place to allow the police to investigate the collision scene and for the vehicles to be recovered. The road reopened just after 11am.

To assist with the investigation, officers are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward without delay.

In particular, it is believed two or three vehicles were travelling in front of the grey Citroen C5 estate car taxi going towards Pool-in-Wharfedale, via the Harrogate bypass, prior to the crash. Officers are asking the drivers or passengers in these vehicles to get in touch to help piece together the circumstances of the incident.
