Launch of destination management organisation ‘Visit Harrogate’

24 July 2013

The Harrogate district is gearing up for the launch of its very own Destination Management Organisation on Tuesday 30 July – and everyone is invited.

Visit Harrogate will aim to increase the number of visitors across the whole district and the launch will see the introduction of a new website – www.visitharrogate.co.uk – which will highlight all that is best about the area, from family attractions to hotels and from shopping to the arts.

The launch takes place at Harrogate International Centre from 11am to 12.30pm and will include an exhibition and presentations from the organisation on how it plans to boost visitor numbers.

Visit Harrogate Project Director Angela Harris said:

We want to increase not only the number of visitors but the length of their stay and their spend across the district. We have so much of which to be proud and we need to work together to promote it nationally and internationally.

We are passionate about promoting the district and we would welcome anyone to the launch who is interested in helping us to achieve our aims. Come along and meet the team, find out what we have been doing and what we plan to do in the future, both for and with you.

Visit Harrogate Chairman Peter McCormick OBE said:

This is the first time that all the towns in the district have been involved in a single initiative to promote them.

Each area attracts visitors and it would be great if we could encourage them to widen their stay by visiting other places in the district while they are here.

The establishment of Visit Harrogate is an important step forward in making that happen.

Among those attending the launch will be the Head of Cultural Tourism and Special Tourism Projects for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, Lizzie Glithero-West, while Louise Stewart, Strategy and Development Director of Visit England, will be among the speakers in a short presentation on the opportunities for the district.

Harrogate International Centre is supporting the event, with Director Simon Kent keen to work closely with Visit Harrogate to help attract more business tourism, conferences and events to the district.

Simon Kent said:

The launch of Visit Harrogate is something that anyone with the slightest interest in promoting our region should be giving their support to.

We have great shops, hotels, restaurants, some fabulous countryside, castles and even the Tour de France next year so it’s vital we all work together to tell the world what we have to offer in this wonderful part of Yorkshire.

HIC is proud to host the launch and will be giving Visit Harrogate its full support.

Free parking is available at HIC.
