Enjoy the ultimate summer survival guide with the National Trust

With six weeks of blissful freedom ahead, the summer holiday is a giant, fun-sized adventure for children of all ages. But for parents, filling the long days of summer can sometimes be a bit of a challenge. But don’t panic the National Trust’s summer survival guide is here to help, providing wild and wonderful adventures on everyone’s doorstep.

At Trust places this summer, children big and small will be encouraged to release their inner ‘wild’ side by trying to complete 25 of the ‘50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾’ during the six weeks of summer (Monday 22 July – Sunday 1 September).

Simply sign up for free at www.nationaltrust.org.uk/50things at the start of the holidays and download the brand new ‘wild-time challenge pack’, crammed with a six week adventure planner, activity sheet and plenty of top tips to help boost kids’ outdoor experiences this summer.

Plus, if families log each adventure they complete online, not only will they collect exciting rewards along the way, but if you tick off 25, you will also receive a free National Trust family visit pass and be in with a chance to win the top prize of directing and starring in your very own nature film*.

We hope the wild time challenge will help parents to have a stress free summer holidays as there are loads of activities to keep children busy, whether they’re out and about at National Trust attractions or at home in the garden. All of the activities encourage children to get outdoors and explore the nature on their doorstep.

To help you find out where you can do each of the 50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾ activities in the Yorkshire the National Trust has created a downloadable planner which can be found at www.nationaltrust.org.uk/yorkshire

There are also lots of events taking place across Yorkshire every day of the summer holidays, you can find a full list at www.nationaltrust.org.uk/events but in the meantime here are some of the highlights:

Pondlife at Brimham Rocks, nr Harrogate 25 July & 29 August, 1 – 2.30pm

With the help of the Rangers, come to Brimham and discover just what lives in a pond. Find out what creatures make it their home. With the help of the Rangers you will have the chance to explore the pond and discover what creatures make it their home. Wild Art Workshops at Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal, Ripon 27 & 28 July, 3 & 4 August, 11am – 4pm

Come and create a beautiful work of art using natural, gathered materials in this active family workshop. We’ll be making our own natural paint, leaf printing and creating unique pieces of art. Rockpool Ramble at Robin Hood’s Bay, Yorkshire Coast 30 July & 29 August at 5pm; 6 & 9 August at 11am

Join our Rangers to find out what lives in the rockpools along the North Yorkshire Coastline. Maybe you’ll find a crab, perhaps even a star fish? Mountain Bike Taster Day, Malham Tarn, Yorkshire Dales 8 & 15 August

Ever fancied mountain biking but weren’t sure where to start? Join an experienced guide for a beginner’s course on mountain biking at Malham Tarn.
