Vital Technology Group’s bed race effort helps Martin House Hospice

13 July 2013

Vital Technology Group has raised more than £1,800 for Martin House Children’s Hospice after taking part in the Great Knaresborough Bed Race.

Last month’s race was the first one that the Knaresborough-based IT group had taken part in after becoming a fundraising partner for the Boston Spa hospice.

The six-man team, which was called Vital Statistics, dressed as leprechauns for this year’s race theme of myths and legends.

Craig Brackett, Vital Statistics’ team captain, said:

Not having done the race before we were really pleased to get a place at the selection evening back in February, especially with there being so much demand.

We far exceeded how much we thought we’d raise for Martin House, and we even did a faster race time than we envisaged.

We’re now planning other ways to raise much needed funds to help support the great work that everyone at the hospice does.

Brenda Peel, Corporate Fundraiser at Martin House Hospice, said:

Every year Martin House cares for and supports more than 500 local children with life-limiting illnesses and their families, both during the life of the child and into bereavement.

Our operating costs this year are £4.9 million, or £13,500 per day, and only about 12 per cent comes from governmental sources. This means we need to raise the rest via public and private donations and every penny helps.

Vital Technology have raised a fantastic amount by taking part in the Knaresborough Bed Race this year and seemed to have had a great time too.
